Question: 8 month old does not like baby food!?
My daughter will be 8 months on Wednesday. We have been giving her baby food for a while now, and she is getting to the point where she just spits it back at us! we do give her bites of what we are eating (if it’s ok for her to have of course). Yesterday we were having chicken, mashed potatoes and rolls. She refused to eat her baby food, but sure did eat everything we were having. I guess my question is…is it ok to just let her eat “table food”? I understand that her formula is the main source of her nutrition, and she still gets her bottles. Just curious! Anyone else with a baby who simply disliked baby food, lol?!
Btw, she has her 2 bottom teeth, but seems to be able to gum just about everything! She also uses the pincer grasp to pick up food and put it in her mouth.

As long as you’ve done your due diligence re. food allergies, and she is getting a balanced diet, then it’s fine to feed her non-baby food. My third child came to the table by about 8-9 months. Occasionally, I would make him a baby-like version of what we would eat — eg. chicken vegetable stew cooked in a formula base
Question: How much baby food to feed my 8 month old baby?
My baby is 8 months old and I think he eats a lot. I’m not sure if I’m over feeding him or if he’s eating the norm for an 8 month old. This is his schedule. He wakes up between 7 and 8 and gets a clean diaper and a 6 oz bottle. Another diaper around mid morning. At noon he has lunch – a 2nd Food “breakfast” (they’ve got the jars that are like country breakfast or fruit and cereal etc) and a 3rd Food fruit. Then he gets another 6oz bottle and diaper and goes down for a nap from 12:30 to between 2 and 3. Obviously I change him again when he wakes up from his nap. Then at 5 he gets a 2nd Food “dinner” (I.e. Chicken noodle dinner etc) and a 3rd food veggie and some juice(2 oz water & 2 oz juice). Then you know diaper changes when necessary. And finally bath time at 8:30 and an 8 oz bottle afterward. Goes to bed at 9 and sleeps like a rock all night. I don’t make him cereal with formula anymore because every time I feed it to him he pukes. But when I give him the jar food that is like fruit and cereal he does fine with it. I’m concerned that not giving him cereal is not healthy. I’m wondering when I’m supposed to start introducing table food and how to do so. I’ve tried to start giving him the puffs but he only has his 2 front bottom teeth and i get super nervous that he’s going to choke. I’ve also read that I should be starting to introduce the sippie cup so I bought some with different types of nipples to try out some different kinds and he will not drink out of any of them!! From all the info I’ve shared does anyone have any input? I would greatly appreciate some opinions. Thanks!!!

Well, honestly, it sounds to me like you’re feeding him a lot of solids already. I have a five month old who I have just started to give oatmeal cereal once a day mixed with breast milk. Other than that (which he gets just before I put him down for the night) he nurses on demand. I’m planning on adding another meal of cereal when he’s six months old (in a couple of weeks). This is what I did with all of my other kids (I have 5 others) and they all thrived on this type of schedule for solids.

Question: 8 month old still not very interested in solid foods, other feeding question?
Hello! I have been feeding my 8 month old son jarred baby foods regularly since he was about 5 months old. He usually spits it out or turns his head to the side when I’m feeding him, and is still not very interested in eating them. I’m worried that he’s falling behind for his age. Has anyone else had experience with this problem? Also, I’m trying to start giving him finger foods, since he’s certainly old enough, but I bought the baby finger foods that are like cheerios, and it says that the baby should be able to crawl (he doesn’t yet) and mash food with his gums first before he starts eating them, which my son really doesn’t seem to do. It does say, though, that the food “melts in babies mouth”, so I wonder if that still presents a choking hazard, since my son does know how to swallow the food. I’m so worried about him choking, but I’m also worried that he’s falling behind at this age, so I’m not sure what to do. Any advice? Thanks!

My baby is 8 months. He never got the hang of jarred foods. He LOVES and I mean ravenously LOVES regular food. I make him oatmeal (not baby cereal, just regular old fashioned Quaker Oats), I give him banana (not mashed, just chunks), cooked sweet potato chunks, steamed rice, etc.
My little sister was 9 or 10 months before she really got interested in crawling and eating solids. I don’t think your baby is behind. Just let him tell you when he’s ready for solids. OH TRUST ME, when he’s ready HE WILL LET YOU KNOW!! Usually by stealing whatever you are eating and cramming it in his face by the fistful!!
Question: 11 almost 12 month old & foods/drinks?
my son is 11.5 months, he’ll be 12 months in a little over 2 weeks. & i was just wondering, what is “okay” for him to eat and drink.. he has very little interest in the “baby food” other than the gerber puff, wagon wheels & stuff like that, he’ll occationally eat the fruits, but thats about it.. he wants what mommy & daddy has.. and we’ll give him most of what were eating but we’re still not 100% sure whats good/okay for him to have on a daily basis.. anything he tries he seems to like for the most part, and people will comment “dont give him too much of that” & “oh thats great for him”.. so we’re a little confused. heres an example of what he gets usually.. mashed potatoes (or a baked potato mashed) – with nothing added maybe a little butter for taste), mashed sweet potatoes, yo baby yogurt, steamed/cooked veggies cut or mashed into chewable pieces, bananas, crackers, and so on…he’s shown a like for.. cottage cheese, regular cheese, bread.. and things that im not sure if theyre ok?
EDIT/ADD: i guess im just wondering what you have or are giving you 11/12 month old & theyve done good with.. i know every baby is different but id just like to see what others are doing.. & as far as juice goes after your baby turned one did you still give the gerber juice or just switch to regular 100% juice? i use WIC and after this month we’ll be getting only regular juice..
i also know these are most questions i should be talking to our doctor about. but we wont see him again until aug. 5th so i figured id get some type of insight.

Okay I don’t have any children of my own yet, but I’ve been very close with my sister all 8 years that she’s been raising her 3 girls. She just feeds them whatever they will eat, and they are all very healthy.
It sounds like you are doing a really good job (better than my sister!) with what you’re feeding your son. They need good nutrition, and the fact that you’re giving him potatoes with no salt is really good. Cheese should be fine, although I would go about testing it like you did when you first started him on solids (i.e., try it, and don’t try anything else new for 4 days until you determine he’s not allergic). Cheese is high in calcium and protein, which growing boys need a lot of!
Oh, and about the juice: we fed the kids half juice/half water for as long as they would take it. Juice by itself is too sugary. Eventually, though, they will want the juice without water mixed in.
Question: My almost-12 month old won’t/can’t eat “table/toddler” food. His dr. isn’t concerned. So why am I?
My son isn’t excited about eating solids really at all. Occasionally when we are in a restaurant, he will want something to occupy himself with (foodwise), but it seems he would be content to simply breastfeed almost exclusively yet. We seat him at the family table and we all eat dinner together (me, husband, and him), and I usually eat breakfast with him as well– and by this, I mean whatever little he will eat. I don’t want to force food on him or start a power struggle, but he just doesn’t seem to want anything. What little food he does take is smooth puree– seems to hate the 3rd stage foods, so we don’t really go that route anymore. And I have tasted everything I feed him– it’s not as if I’m trying to make him eat something really gross. We offer little bits of our (appropriate) food, and he just thinks it is for mushing, messing, and throwing off the highchair to the dog. If something makes it into his mouth and it doesn’t totally dissolve (like steamed peas or rice), he gags frequently. He has 5 teeth.
I know I shouldn’t be comparing my kid to others, but my friends with same-age babies are eating whole grean beans, string cheese, and even PB&J sandwiches! My son just wants the boob. I’ve talked to the dr. about this, and she doesn’t seem to think it’s a big problem, as he will self-feed from time to time (puffs, graham goldfish, yogurt melts). He also uses a sippy cup for the occasional expressed breastmilk feeding when I’m not around, and a straw cup for water, and hitting all of his other developmental milestones (took first steps last week). He is approx. 50th percentile for both height and weight, so he’s obviously growing just fine. I am trying to live by the “food is for fun until age one” mantra, but his birthday is next week, and he still has no real desire to eat “real food.” So what can I do to just get over myself or perhaps make my son more interested in solids? He has his 12 month check-up at the end of this month and I plan to discuss this again with his pediatrician.

Question: my 4 month old and “solid food”?
my daughter is 4 months old, and i want to start her on solids. i know to start with baby rice cereal, wait a week, then move on to a new food. what foods come next? how much and how often will she eat? when can i just give her a little of everything that i am eating, pureed? my boyfriend says we should start giving her 1 tbsp of each item in each meal, that is what his mom did, and i want to, but i heard its bad… please shed some light for me.

Keep her on rice cereal for a few weeks then you can add in oatmeal, barely, or mixed grain cereal. But wait until 6 months old to add anything more, such as stage1 veggies then fruits.
The reason you should do one food at a time for one week before adding another is to make it easier to trace food allergies should your child develop one.
For example, my son was sensitive to sweet potatoes. I found that out at a time when he was only eating sweet potatoes…had he had a reaction after I started 3 new foods in a week I would not have been able to know for sure quickly and easily what caused his reaction.
